Adventures in Photography: First Friday Artwalk at The Paseo…

Noshing, sipping, shooting, posing, chatting, laughing, strolling, networking and learning are all part of the game as a photographer!
One of the goals with our meetup group in Oklahoma City is to give people a variety of venues to shoot and reasons to get together. Last night we did a photowalk at The Paseo District’s First Friday Artwalk in Oklahoma City. It was a fabulous way to socialize and see some really great art. Walking the length of the Paseo and back with a group of about twelve, we heard some great music and met some ridiculously talented artists. And if you’d like to be part of the FUN, please join the group!

RELAX!

We all know what it is like to have our picture taken. And of course everyone is different, but most of us feel uncomfortable when the moment comes. As photographers, it is our job to help our subject to feel at ease and relaxed.

Recently we had the opportunity to shoot a great group of realtors in the Seattle, WA area. So, we set up lights and a space to shoot them as they came in one by one to face the dreaded moment. They all had very different personalities and different reactions to having their photos taken. Most expressed they did not normally like to have their photo taken because they didn’t like what they look like in photos. This is quite typical unless you are shooting an event that includes alcohol, then of course you can see a different side of most folks.

Well, my experience has shown me that if you can get someone to talk a little bit about a subject they enjoy, they tend to relax and before they know it, the process is over… in a flash. When people feel comfortable, they forget for a moment that this awkward event is even taking place. It also helps if you as the photographer are relaxed and confident. Then the subject begins to trust your process and let down their guard, if for only a few moments.

We heard some fantastic stories about selling homes and the clients they work with that day. These are a few of the outtakes of our shoot…

Lloyd and Adrian’s Big Adventure!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sell everything you own, get rid of your house/apartment & all the bills that go along with it, take your clothes and your photo gear, shove it all in a two-door Honda Civic, and just DRIVE!

us

Well… that’s what we did.

From 2006 to 2010 we were living the typical creative lifestyle in Hollywood- shooting cool gigs that came our way, enjoying Venice & Santa Monica, eating our weight in Wahoo’s fish tacos, hiking and running amongst the endless palm trees, learning and growing in one of the most competitive industries in the world…
And at the end of 2010 it hit us.
We’re young(ish)!

_MG_9082We’re super adventurous!

Let’s do something CRAZY!?!

So we came up with the idea that we would travel the country in our car, couch surf, meet a bunch of creative folks on our vast Facebook network, shoot, teach workshops, live, dream, and see all that we could see.

Our adventures took us from LA over to Vegas for an extended stay, through Colorado up to Wisconsin, through OK/TX/NM/AZ, and then all the way up the West coast via Hwy 1/101 (which is hands down the most beautiful and scenic drive ever!!!) through San Fran and even to Seattle… we met the greatest people, had too many unique experiences to list, reconnected with family & friends, and knowing us- even though we have a home base in Oklahoma City now near Adrian’s family- our passion for travel will keep going! We see beauty in everything, and we can’t wait to share it with the world. ~ LR Read more

Home is Where your heart is…

Think about a house for a minute-
A brick and mortar domicile.
Four walls and a roof.
A place to hang your hat.

Now what makes YOUR house a HOME??? It might be the way you have it decorated, your loved ones that live there with you, the memories you’ve had there… Home is a place that becomes a part of you. Even if you move, you take the energy of that space with you… so home truly is where the heart is. I have called many places home- Seattle, Spokane, Missoula, Williston, Nashville, Costa Mesa, Long Beach, Hollywood, Oklahoma City, a Honda Civic (see  Lloyd and Adrian’s Big Adventure ) and my girlfriend (Adrian) says to me, “Home is wherever I am with you” (I think she saw that on Pinterest or something…). They are all places that have captured my heart.

This is what I think I bring to the table when shooting architectural and real estate photography. I see the beauty that people create in their homes, and I convey that in subtle details. And I have really pushed myself, studying magazines, editorials, and high end catalogs closely to learn Photoshop techniques for taking out distractions like cords and outlets that may take away from an otherwise perfect image. And I find that there is an instant emotional connection when someone goes to look for an apartment listing or real estate ad to buy a home… you don’t even realize how powerful an image is. It makes or breaks a potential tenant’s or buyer’s perspective of the space you have worked so hard to love and create. With the right photography, you get results. With mediocre photography, people click on by. What do your real estate photos say?

Wedding Day

Weddings are a magical time when all things come together for the right reasons. I feel like this is one time in your life you should take it serious and capture that moment… you will never regret that decision!
